Systems Engineering
End-to-End Systems Engineering
Systems Engineering (SE) is a way of thinking and acting that puts interdisciplinary work into the center of all engineering activities. Systems Engineering enables cross-disciplinary product development.
Systems engineering is one of our core competencies. We advise on the overall process of product creation, but also on technical sub-processes such as Requirements Engineering, Functional Engineering, and Verification & Validation, and on transversal processes such as Configuration & Change Management and Risk Management. Thanks to our industry knowledge, we know the specifics and standards of the respective industry sectors and can create customized solutions for you:
Analysis and roadmapping
We analyze your current systems engineering capabilities and existing best practices. We indentify optimization potential, support defining a systems engineering roadmap and establish business cases to estimate the profitability of possible further improvement steps.
Definition and operationalization
We define an optimized systems engineering process for you, taking into account general (ISO/IEC 15288) as well as industry-specific standards, and support the creation of process documentation, role descriptions, plans and checklists.
Based on the best practices lived in your company, we define uniform systems engineering methods that are independent of tools used. We help with the selection of the required software tools and – if necessary – create special adaptations and integrations.
Continuing education and competence building
We advise on the necessary employee competencies and on training concepts, and accompany you in the step-by-step introduction of systems engineering. We coach your employees in key roles and help overcome initial difficulties.
Model-based Systems Engineering
In model-based systems engineering (MBSE), formal and traceable models are used to describe the system of interest, taking into account different perspectives such as function, safety, technical realization, and so on.
These connected system models are the central data pool, being the “single source of truth” and enabling seamless collaboration between all engineering disciplines. They help avoid inconsistencies and enable automation and early virtual verification of development results.
MBSE is the basis for the complete digitalization of the product creation process and for successful collaboration of various engineering disciplines.
We support you in developing your strategy for model-based systems engineering: We perform as-is analyses, develop business cases, and propose a roadmap for the transition to MBSE.
We develop MBSE methods or adapt existing methods and support the selection and introduction of suitable MBSE tools. We develop modeling profiles as well as automation support for modeling, model verification, and documentation.
To ensure success of your MBSE activities, we connect MBSE and other engineering processes such as Safety Engineering, Configuration & Change Management and (model-based) Software Engineering.
We develop training concepts for MBSE, train your employees (on-premise or online), implement pilot projects jointly with you, and coach your employees during the initial use of MBSE.
Agile Systems Engineering
Systems engineering is sometimes perceived as process-biased, document- or model-centric, and cumbersome. Particularly in volatile contexts – when customer requirements change frequently, and when development activities contain a high proportion of research due to the novelty of technologies – agile systems engineering has proven itself as an adequate process model. Agile and classic approaches are combined, and solutions for subsystems are developed and optimized in rapid design-build-test cycles.
We support your teams in the transition to agile systems engineering, define adaptations of process models and methods, train employees, and accompany pilot projects.
